THEIR STORY

Idlewild Baptist Church was established in 1934 with a vision of creating a Christ-centered community that would share the love of Jesus with its neighbors and beyond. Over the decades, the church has experienced tremendous growth, moving through six locations to accommodate its expanding congregation and ministry needs. In 2005, Idlewild found its permanent home at 18333 Exciting Idlewild Boulevard, a state-of-the-art campus designed to facilitate worship, fellowship, and community engagement.

Idlewild has become a cornerstone of faith in the region, known for its vibrant and uplifting worship services that blend dynamic music, heartfelt prayer, and powerful biblical teaching. The church has consistently demonstrated a commitment to serving others, both locally and globally, through a variety of outreach initiatives. These include support for families in need, community events, and international missions.

At its core, Idlewild emphasizes discipleship, fostering a strong sense of connection among its members through groups, youth ministries, and adult education programs. The church’s heart for service is evident in its motto: to give the best of what it has—its time, talents, and treasures—to make a lasting impact for Christ. Idlewild’s journey from its humble beginnings to becoming a thriving hub for worship and outreach reflects its steadfast dedication to glorifying God and sharing His message of hope and salvation.

WHO THEY ARE

Idlewild is a place where faith and community intersect, offering a welcoming environment for people of all ages and backgrounds. Idlewild Baptist Church is involved in various activities and programs, including music, recreation, community outreach, missions, and evangelism. Through its extensive local and international outreach initiatives, Idlewild exemplifies a commitment to living out the Gospel by serving others with compassion and purpose.

Mission: Giving ourselves daily to help each one live in the rescuing power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Vision: A compelling community grounded in the Bible, led in Prayer, where members are cared for and are working together on mission, developing leaders who impact the nations.

Core Beliefs:

  • We are a disciple-making church focused on the importance of daily commitment and service to others, reflecting the teachings of Jesus Christ.

  • We believe that there is one God, manifested in three persons, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

  • We believe that Jesus is the only begotten Son of God, was born of a virgin, is wholly God and wholly man, lived a sinless life, died as a substitutionary sacrifice for the sins of mankind, was buried, arose from the grave and ascended into Heaven.

  • We believe in the literal, bodily return of Jesus Christ to earth.

  • We believe that the Bible is the Word of God without any error, the sole authority for life.

  • We believe that man is a special creation of God, made in His image.

  • We believe that mankind fell through the sin of the first man, Adam, and that all men are sinners in need of salvation.

  • We believe that salvation is a gift of grace from God, received through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

  • We believe that every person who truly is saved is eternally secure in the Lord Jesus Christ.

  • We believe that those persons who die without faith in Jesus Christ spend eternity in Hell and those persons who die with their sins forgiven, through faith in Christ, spend eternity in Heaven.

  • We believe that water baptism is in obedience to the command of Christ and is by immersion after salvation.

  • We believe that the local church is the local body of baptized believers with the Lord Jesus Christ as the head.

  • We believe that each believer has direct access to God through the Lord Jesus Christ and the Bible, God’s Word.

  • We believe in the separation of church and state, but not in the separation of God and government.

Idlewild Baptist Church hosts multi-generational services on Sundays at 9:15 AM and 11:00 AM, as well as on Wednesday nights at 6:30 PM. They have a variety of groups, children's church, a wonderful Spanish ministry, and much more to serve the local community and reach people for Christ.

Idlewild is significantly investing in developing leaders, with a vision to train, equip, and send their members out to plant churches. This vision inspired the creation of the Institute at Idlewild. Below is a short clip from Lead Pastor Dr. Edgar Aponte sharing more about the Institute:
